From Blah to Shabby Chic

Good afternoon, everyone in blog land. It's Wednesday and I have another fun project to share with you. This little chair has made me smile(when she was all remade) with all the gloomy weather we have had this week. We have had really windy weather and rain and cold!!!!!! Anyways, on to the project. My husband found this chair at a garage sale for $2.00. I thought it was cute but the seat had a tear in the vinyl. So here is the before picture:

So, my husband took the back and the seat off because I said I would put some new vinyl on the chair. Once the back and the seat was off, I decided to spray the frame with a berry spray paint. It took a couple of spraying to get it to look nice. I than covered the seat and back with an oil cloth that I purchased from a store called Elm Creek, up in Farwell, Michigan. I just love the print.

I think the pink on the chair legs and back match the pink in the flowers quite nicely. The print is retro looking and fresh at the same time.

Lucky Number Seven!!!

Hello! How was your Monday? My son and I went to our local pool this morning and enjoyed an hour of splashing fun. He turned four this past summer and pretty much learned how to swim by himself. I was afraid he would've lost his "braveness" and wouldn't want to swim without his life jacket. I was absolutely wrong.....he didn't miss a beat! He picked it right up and was doing big "splooshes and dunks" just like he was doing this past summer. It was a fun morning and we both enjoyed ourselves!

I found this little plant stand? I am not totally sure what it was originally made for. I didn't mind the red but I wanted to jazz it up a bit.

I gave it a couple coats of a light turquoise paint and then distressed it enough so you could see the red coming through. I love the color combination red/aqua. I added a number seven using my cricut machine to the top of it. What do you think? Better before or after?

An updated look.....

Good morning and happy Sunday! We've been enjoying our weekend and trying to stay upbeat about our beloved "Tigers" and hoping they'll pull in a win tonight. It's been pretty darn disappointing up this point watching them during the World Series.

I hope you having a great weekend! It's hard to believe that Halloween is around the corner. My son is looking forward to trick-or-treating and all it's festivities. We hosted a small "kid" party this past Friday, which was a lot of fun. We enjoyed some yummy treats and participated in a few Halloween games.

I found this end table at a garage sale awhile back. I love the shape and size of it and has some great details. It was pretty beat up on the top of the table.....so I decided that I would give it an update. I decided on the color black. I gave it a quick cleaning and then a coat of primer. After allowing the primer to cure, I applied several coats of black latex paint. I then used polyacrylic to seal the paint. I decided not to distress this table. I'm happy with the way it turned out.........hopefully someone else will love it too, as it is now in our "booth space"!

A Shabby Dress Form

Good afternoon, everyone. It's just beautiful here in Michigan and I'm afraid it's going to be the last really warm day. It should reach about 80 today, but maybe a little too warm for fall. Non the less, the sun is shining and there isn't a cloud in the sky. Well, I picked up a dilapidated dress form at a garage sale. It had stains on it and some of the material was starting to come off, but I thought she had some possibilities. Here is the before pictures:

So, I brought her home and I thought that I would paint the form or maybe the stand but I decided not to. I liked the pewter colored stand and I had gone thru alot of my fabric pieces. I found some fancy gold satin, some fine netting, some ribbon and laces and of course some jewels. Every girl needs some jewels or pearls. After finding my materials, I started piecing the material on the separate parts of the dress form. I attached the material with some spray adhesive and my trusty glue gun. Boy, did I have a lot of burnt fingers but I was becoming satisfied with the results. I stood back when she was all covered and decided that she needed a little bit more. Out came the netting which I made a skirt with and attached a black ribbon around her waist and of course, a brooch. The arms and neck looked a little bare, so I added a ruffle with the left over scraps of satin. She of course, had to have a little netting around the neck and some added lace. All finished off with some pearls and a couple of fancy earrings that I made them do as a brooch. Here is the after pictures:

I think she came out really fun and cute and would look really nice somewhere in someone's shabby room. What do you think? Until next time, Dianne........

Simply Chevron

It's late afternoon her in Michigan and I am just getting around to posting. It's hard to be sitting around a computer when the weather outside is in the mid 70's. I cannot believe that it is October and we are still having this kind of weather. It is awesome, although I don't think it is supposed to last for very long. Oh well we will take it when we can.
So here is this little chair that I picked up along my travels. I thought it was cute the way it was before but I found this awesome chevron print at this occassional sale that we took part in a couple weeks ago. I never have seen a chevron print like this and I just had to have it. I knew I could find something to do with it. So here it is on this little chair. I first sprayed a fresh coat of gray on the chair instead of the blue and then took the seat and covered it with this fabulous fabric. Even though I liked it before I think the fabric changed the look of this chair dramatically! Have a great day wherever you are reading from.

From Dark to Light

Good Afternoon, everyone. My blogging is a little late but here goes for a Monday. I started this project and was having such a good time creating and painting that I forgot to take the before picture. The table was and is in good shape but the finish was way to dark and really banged up. The shape of the table is really cute and anyone could find a home for it. It could be used in a entrance hallway with a mirror hanging above it or as a side table. So here is the table that I painted and antiqued.

I used a really dark cream, almost a light beige paint. I had seen a pillow done with the year 1935 on it and I thought that this particular design would look fun on the top of the table. So, I drew the design lightly with pencil and than starting filling in design with a burnt umber acrylic paint. When the design finally dried, I than took the burnt umber paint and starting antiquing the piece. I kept on rubbing the paint around and off til I got the desired effect.

Green Horse Bookends

Happy Sunday! How are you? Things are well here in good 'ole Michigan. This week is supposed to be awesome as far as weather is concerned!! We are hoping to hit a few outdoor activities this week before the bitter cold hits Michigan....which is right around the corner.

Anyways....I found these cool horse book ends at a recent garage sale. I just thought they were so cool! I knew they would look great in green. Here they are before.....

I gave them a few coats of green spray paint and then antiqued them in black.

Got music paper?

Good morning and happy Friday to all of you! I hope everyone had a great week filled with fun projects, crafts, adventures, etc. I know that I did and I am kind of happy that it is Friday, although the weekend looks like it is going to be just as busy! Good times though! This project wasn't difficult or time consuming, but I had so much fun doing it. I saw a blog on covering dollar store pumpkins with paper and I just LOVED it. I have actually seen the idea on a few different blogs but the one that most stuck with me was over at simplychictreasure.blogspot.com. I just adored it so I had to run to the dollar store and pick up some of these little, cute pumpkins and try one of my own.

I did a few things just a little different. First of all I tore music paper out of a book and glued it on the pumpkin using a mixture of glue and water. After letting it dry I took some dark stain and rubbed it all over the pumpkin to attempt to give it a more antiqued look. For the top I covered it with twine and added an old earring that I found in my box of treasures (that were purchased from an auction and I thought I would never have any use for) and stuck it in the top to add just a little bit more. I have made a few more and have them around my house. It's a fun, quick and easy project for anyone to try. Have a great weekend!

Shedding New Light

Good evening!! It's super late on Wednesday and I am just getting around to posting! Some days time just gets away. On a different note we went for a hike tonight and it was gorgeous! The weather was so nice and the colors were simply beautiful! The best part was the baby just LOVED being out there too.
I found this lamp awhile ago and I just decided to do something with it. It's very old and super heavy. I just loved the petite size of it so I knew that something could be done with it. It came without a lampshade so I decided to cover this small one that fit perfect on the lamp and add a little flower made out of material for embellishment. I am pleased with how the shade turned out and looks on my little lamp. As for the lamp I simply sprayed it a cream and antiqued it with brown pain. It was such a simple project but is a fun and functional accessory for one of my end tables.

New Look for the Owl

Good Morning everyone. It's Tuesday and the beginning of the work week. I have a really easy fix it job and all you need is a can of high gloss white spray paint. I thought this little owl was cute but I wasn't quite into this painted look. I wanted a more streamlined and clean look and I really like some statues painted white. One can still see what kind of animal or bird the statue is. Well anyways, here is the before picture:

So I did my little spray job and I really like the look. It's a fun and easy and quick job to do and it gives a brand new look. Here is the after picture:

Old Chair Receives a New Look!!

Hello!! Happy Monday! How was your weekend? It was a busy one here....we participated in an "occasional sale" and sold a few of our "shabby gals" treasures. It was fun and for the most part pretty successful. We were able to sell a few pieces of our furniture, which was awesome! Now we have some more room in our garages to add a few more pieces of furniture....much to our significant others dismay:)!

I found this small little chair at a recent flea market.

I gave it a quick cleaning and then a coat of primer. After the primer had dried....I applied two coats of black latex paint followed by a coat of poly-acrylic. I recovered the seat with a burlap sack that was also found at a flea market.

Updated World Map

Hello! Hope you're swell!! I found this world map at a garage sale for a couple of bucks.....I knew it was a great price for such a big map so I scooped it up. The color of the frame didn't work for me so I thought paint it a brighter color.

This was a quick and easy update! (Those are the best...right?) I removed the map and sprayed the frame a bright orange. It now hangs in my son's room and I love the way it looks.

Little pink polka dot

Good Morning everyone....Hope everyone had a good weekend. Found this little table at a garage sale and just loved it metal curvy legs. The table only cost $5.00 and I thought it would be fun to paint it up and add a little girly look to it. This is the before picture:

I took off the legs and sprayed them a soft pink. I had a hard time trying to decide exactly what I wanted to do with the top of the table. So after I sanded the top down, I decided to paint the top a light grey (which I am being told is the new white). I painted light pink polka dots on top of the table to match the legs. I than shabbied the edges of the table. Some of the previous paint came thru which was a dark red. I thought that my polka dots had dried all the way thru, so I had started to wipe the table down after I had sanded the edges and my polka dots starting coming off. I started to panic and thought that this was not what I wanted for a finished look, but I decided that I did like the look and it matched the shabbiness that I had done around the edges. So here is the finished product....What do you think?

I found this little plant stand at a recent flea market trip. The color was just a bit drab for me so I thought I'd spruce it up with some red spray paint. Here is the plant stand before.
