Fun with Numbers!!!

Hi everyone!! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!! We enjoyed ourselves....but it always goes by sooooo fast. I did my first "guest post" over at the Blissful Bucket List last week. In case you missed my project, I wanted to share it once again here.

I have two projects that consist of numbers. I just love numbers right now and try to incorporate them into my decor in different places. I found these three canisters at a garage sale for a couple of bucks. I fell in love with the size of them and the fact that they had teaspoons on the side. I quickly scooped them up and brought them home. Here is a before picture of them.

I used my cricut machine to create three stencils out of contact paper. I absolutely love my cricut machine....Santa brought it for me last Christmas:)! I used a black acrylic paint that is specifically used to paint on glass and carefully dabbed the paint on. Always dab....never rub when you are stenciling. I removed the contact paper as soon as I finished with the paint because it dries quickly. There were a few runs, however, this paint seems a bit more chunky so if you use a toothpick you can clean the lines up very easily. Here they are after their "make-over"!

Onto the second "number" project. I found these little glasses at a garage sale as well. I think they were used as small canning jars, however I use them for little juice cups. Here they are before I prettied them up...

I used the same technique as I described above. Here they are now after their "make-over".

What a Step Up

Good Morning everyone. It's Friday and the sun is shining down on us. Having beautiful fall weather here in Michigan. Well, I have done a step ladder before but I found another one and wanted to do it a little different that my last one. I think they are really fun projects to do and when they are done they can go anywhere because they are small and cute. So here is the before picture:

As you can see, it was a little grungy looking and really paint splattered but I could see the possibilities. So, I went thru all my paint cans to see what color jumped out to me and I decided on a pretty pink, so what else is new, right? So, I painted it up and when I was done, it looked too new. I added wallpaper on each step and than shabbied it up with black acrylic paint. No sanding, just paint to make it look old. Anyways, here it is all done up.

I think it came out fun. What do you think? Dianne

Without a brush

It's Thursday afternoon and I am just getting around to posting. My 8 month old finally went down for a nap and now I have time to blitz. Somdays I just don't know where all the time goes. I am sure everyone feels that way most days.
This table I am going to share with you today was actually picked off the side of the road. I was pumped because I was actually able to score a few other treasures that evening from the same place. My husband is absolutely mortified when I do that but I figure why let some solid pieces of furniture go into the dumpster. For this project I didn't even end up using a paint brush. I took a wet rage and wiped the paint on. I did a couple coats of a cream and then I swiped it with a really light aqua. I just kept swiping until I was pleased with the outcome. I figure it's always fun to try different ways to get different results.
On the last picture you can faintly see a picture of a pocket watch that I found on graphic fairy. I have found on a few different blogs of how to transfer images to wood. I am very pleased with how it turned out. I might just have to try it again in the near future.

A Little Burlap Shabby....

Welcome.....It's Tuesday and I normally don't blog on this day, but I finished a great little rocking chair that I just love and hope that you will. My husband found this old rocker at an estate sale for just $10.00. I just fell in love with it. It was a little beat up but I knew right away what I wanted to do with it. I have picked up some old burlap feed bags that I purchased at a flea market and I knew that this little rocker would look cute with the burlap as the seat. It had been painted but I didn't like the distressed look it had and definitely not the green striped seat. Here is the before picture:

It is hard to see in the photo the distressing but it looked dirty. So I cleaned it up and started painting it in a cream flat paint. Stripped off the green material and added some more padding because the seat is padded with springs(which makes it nice and comfy) and made the seat more secure. After the paint was dry, I went back with some burnt umber acrylic paint and just highlighted the details on the back of the seat which I just loved. Sealed the whole chair with some poly-acrylic varnish to protect the finish and make it withstand some hard use. I finished the seat with the burlap bag and some trim and upholstery nails along the bottom to hide the nails holding down the burlap bag and to give it a finished look. It has now found a permanent home in our cottage and a nice chair to rock our grandbabies....

Little Gray Bench

Hi!! How was your weekend? It was a good one here.....I went to a flea market this weekend and found a few cool treasures! I absolutely LOVE flea markets! I think the best thing about them is that you never know what you are going to find. I've been going to these flea markets for about eight years now and still get so excited to go. My mom and sister found a few treasures as well. It was a good time which always includes a lot of laughs.... I look forward to going to our next one!!

I wanted to share with you a bench I recently painted. Here it is before....nothing special. Although, in the same regard, nothing wrong with it as well. I guess it didn't quite fancy me.

So, I gave it a cleaning and then a coat of primer. I then painted two coats of gray latex paint. Lastly, I distressed around the corners and where it "might" get knocked around.

What a Hottie......

Hi everyone. Fall is here in Michigan and it's been a nice one so far. Found a cute little magazine holder but it was a little banged up. It was done in some kind of reed or bamboo and the trim was metal. Some of the reed was broken but I thought that it was still cute and could be revamped. Here is the before picture...
Oh, I forgot it only cost at a garage sale a big whopping 50 cents......

As you can see it had some broken parts. So what I did was trim them right across the ends.. I actually liked it better because you could see the metal work on the magazine rack. I got out the spray paint which was a hot pink. Sprayed the whole thing and I liked the result, which I like pink anyways. What do you think??????

A Unique Find

Brrr...here I was ALMOST complaining about the close to 90 degree weather we were having last week, and now I am about to say that it is pretty chilly around here these days. I won't complain either way though, that's just Michigan.
Today I am going to share with you a piece of furniture that is really unique. I thought I have found some cool things before but this one really caught my eye. I found it at a garage sale (I know not a big surprise) and something about it screamed out at me. It looks like someone must have made it at some point...and it would be kind of fun to try to replicate it, if I knew what it was made out of. Maybe some of you might know. I thought for a minute that they were old electrical insulators, although when looking for pictures of them I haven't seen anything that looks quite like these do. It looks like the bottom is made out of an old bar stool or even microphone base. None the less I thought this table was really neat.

Well whatever it is made out of it needed some tlc. I took some antique white spray paint and coated the base. I then took some old wallpaper and modge podged it on top. I love the fact that you will probably never find another table like this one unless re-created. Have a splendid day!! ~ Jessica

Whoooo likes orange??

Hey guys! Happy Tuesday! It sure feels like fall this morning around good 'ole Michigan. I wanted to share with you a little owl update project. I found this trio of owls at a local Salvation Army. I couldn't pass them up! I thought they were just so cute.....but I was thinking I would give them a little update. Here they are before.....

I gave them a quick couple of coats of orange spray paint and called it good. To distress or not to distress??? I chose not to....

"Be Awesome" Chalkboard

Happy Sunday! Hope this finds you well! How was your weekend??? My hubby was out of town on a "guys" golf trip. So....my son and I flew solo this weekend. We managed to keep busy everyday and we spent a lot of time with my sister and her kids. Needless...to say, my four year old is TIRED tonight. It was a good weekend!

I found this empty frame at a garage sale (where else, right?). I am not sure what it was intended for, as it had no glass or cork board behind it.

I decided that it was a great start to a chalkboard. It had a little ledge that would be a fabulous place to hold chalk. I spray painted the frame green and then painted the board with chalkboard paint. There was a little opening so I took some scrabble pieces and spelled out "Be Awesome". Here is the finished product!!! I also happen to love the quote too.

Show off Turtle

Hi everyone, it's Thursday and the second week of school is just flying by. We have had a beautiful fall here in Michigan so far and I have a fun little turtle to share with you. Found this at a garage sale and he was a little boring and would just have blended in with the garden. Here is the before picture:

He is cute but I thought he needed a little color, what else???? I thought he would be an easy project and a fun one. Anyways, I painted him with some acrylic paints and followed his design on his back and left the rest of him his original color. I chose black, green and of course pink. I also thought that he should have green toe nails and a pink mouth. When he was dry, I put some varnish on him to protect the paint job and he found a new home in the flower bed.

Picture Perfect

Good afternoon!! I can't believe that it is September and it's going to be close to 90 degrees today!! I hate to complain because I know that cooler weather is just around the corner. So I am just going to put a smile on my face about it and enjoy it.

I found this old wheel(it's either an old wheel or film reel) in a garage while I was looking for some treasures. I didn't quite know what I was going to do with it at first, and I think the owners were wondering why I would want to purchase it, but I decided it would be a neat way to display pictures. So I painted it pink...which changed the look of the wheel dramatically, and then I cut out a piece of cardboard for the back. I covered the cardboard with this old wallpaper that I purchased a while back and cut some pictures for the holes. I am thrilled with how it turned out. Now if only I had a few more to do this with I could make a cute photo display on my wall. For now though it will look cute on a shelf in her room. Have a great Wednesday!! ~Jessica

Flea Market Special!!!!

Hey there!! Hope you had a great weekend! It was nice here in the mitten state.....at least my area anyways. The fall weather seems to be creeping in.....it actually felt cold outside tonight while going on a bike ride. I do love sweatshirt weather. As much as I LOVE summer, I do appreciate Fall.

Onto today's project.....I found this little beauty of a table at a flea market. I just fell in love with the shape of it and all it's little details. I am so bummed I don't have any before pictures. I could have sworn I took a few....and for the life of me cannot find them on my computer anywhere!!!

She was a natural wood color before. The finish was coming off in a few parts and it was adorned with a few scratches and nicks. I gave it a good cleaning and sanded it a bit before priming it. After a coat of primer, I painted a good couple of coats on her. I used a semi-gloss latex paint. After the coats completely dried....I painted the inside a light green color and then rubbed some of the paint all over the ornate details.
