Not Just a Tablecloth

Hello everyone.  It's back to work this week and I'm having a little hard time adjusting to the early hours again.  I had a wonderful week off and we did a little traveling and had some warm weather to enjoy.  Michigan is having a hard time trying to get into the Spring mode.  Oh well.... Well, I have another project and I had a lot of fun doing it.  I just love the old lampshade frames.  You can transform them so much.  This frame was definitely a little rusty so I decided to wrap the frame with a 1/4" wide cream ribbon.  Here is the wrapped frame:

I knew exactly what I wanted with the end result but wasn't quite sure how to get there.  As you can see the frame is sitting on this old lacey tablecloth.  I loved the lace inserts on the cloth but the tablecloth was torn in a few spots and I didn't want to use it on the table.  I couldn't throw out the cloth because the lace was so pretty and I knew somewhere down the road I could use it somewhere somehow.

I started thinking that I could attached the tablecloth onto the wrapped frame by hot gluing the material onto the frame.  I wanted most of the lace to show so I started section by section adhering the lace onto the frame.  Each section has different sections showing the lace.
Some sections have a little bit more cloth showing and some have more of the lace, using the best of the tablecloth.
After I had attached all the tablecloth to the shade frame, I wanted to cover all the edges with some sort of trim.  I wanted a soft feminine look so I opted with some of the cream ribbon that I first had wrapped the frame with, but I lightly gathered the ribbon on the sewing machine first.  I glued each section with the ribbon and then I did the top and than the bottom of the shade.

I really was happy with the way it turned out and I like the look when the lamp is on or off.
I put the shade on an old lamp and it now sits next to our bedside.
So, what do you think?  Until next time, Dianne..............................
