Put a Number on it!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Hope this finds you well.  My little family of three traveled to Chicago this past weekend with a few friends and their kids.  It was a lot of fun!  We did a ton of walking and the kids did an awesome job of keeping up.....although there is so much to look at when you're in the city.  We spent the morning and a bit of the afternoon at the Shedd Aquarium on Saturday.  My son enjoyed seeing all the different types of aquatic animals.  It was a neat place!  We took a commuter train into the city so that was bit of adventure too!  The kids thought that was "super cool"!  I hope your long weekend was wonderful as well:)

I found this watering can at a yard sale awhile back.  I do really LOVE old watering cans....There is something about them.  I decided that it needed a number on it.  The number three happens to be my favorite so that is the number that I stenciled in aqua paint.

I hope you have a great week:)

Getting Ready for Spring

Good evening, fellow bloggers.  Getting my post out a little late.  Spring is such a busy time and not enough hours in the day to get everything done.  I have been a little slow in getting my summer furniture out on the deck because of the weather.  Spring has been a little slow in sharing her warm weather with us.   Well, anyways here are some pictures of the back deck, just waiting for more warm weather.  I had this baker's rack that was just sitting around and I decided to put it on the deck for a another place to put plants, trays or just about anything.  I had these metal chairs that didn't have any cushions for them so I made some.  The fabric is fun and the buttons are all different.  I just love my old rusty sun that looks like he is blowing sun kisses at you.

I had some old milk crates and I decided to use one for a small little end table with some candlesticks close by for some atmosphere.
I filled up my shelves with old metal pieces that I really like, for example my old pail, my old chipped basin and some very old, chipped metal plates.
Here is my other milk crate that I just turned upside down to place a plant on instead hanging the plant.  Here is my crate that I'm using as a little end table.
Some more stuff on my shelves.
I just love how this fuchsia plant looks hanging down over the shelves.
Here is my old rusty sun.
And here is my deck just waiting for a little more warmth and sunshine.

Until next time, Dianne...............

Gray Butterflies

Good morning!  It's been awhile since the Shabby Gals have posted!  We hope you are doing fabulous!  We traveled to a flea market this past weekend and found some cool things.....I did not take ONE picture.  I had such great intentions and never took any.  It was so much fun....we had some great laughs, ate good food, and shopped and shopped!  My mom, sister, aunt and I all went to the Springfield, Ohio flea market.  It is huge and has so many great items.  This is our ninth year that we've gone....so it's become such a fun tradition.

I found these metal butterflies at a yard sale last summer.  We seem to sell a lot of butterflies in our booth.  I decided that I would give these a little make-over.  They all received a coat of gray spray paint.

Here they are now....I think they look little more modern.

I hope you have a great day!

A New Look for An Old Desk

Good morning everyone.  I missed my normal day of blogging so here I am on an early Friday morning blogging away.  Me, my sister and my daughters are going flea marketing down in Springfield,Ohio.  I'm looking forward to this and I know we will have a good time and lots of laughs.  We always purchase stuff and get a lot of great ideas.  Well on to my little project and I forgot to take a before picture, but trust me this little desk needed a lot of help.  It was banged up and missing some handles and a dirty brown.  I liked the size of this desk because it wasn't huge, one could use this desk anywhere.  I also had this little chair that didn't go with anything and I thought it would look great with this desk because it wasn't huge and clunky.

I painted both the desk and the chair a minty green.  Loved the color because it looks fresh and spring looking.  I had taken off the handles of the desk before I had painted because one was missing but I saved the rest.  The handles were made out of wood so I didn't want to throw them away. This desk had wavy wood trim already on it so I painted that white after the green had dried and the wood handle was also painted a white.  I decided to have some fun with this desk so I painted a design that mimicked the trim and added some little white dots.
I added little round metal drawer pulls that had white in the middle of them.  Looked a little bit like the white dots on the desk.
After the desk and chair had dried, I decided to add some dry brush marks with the white to add a little texture.  The chair I accentuated with the white also.  I brushed it right on top of the caning on the seat.
So here is my little old new green desk and chair.  What do you think?  Until next time, Dianne.......

Mirror, Mirror

Good afternoon....or should I say good evening. I always have great intentions for getting my post up in the morning but somehow my day always gets away from me. It was just too beautiful today to be inside on the computer. So I guess the evening works best!! I am so excited that it is Wednesday because it's only two more days until I make my escape down to Ohio to find some treasures. My Mom and sister and I are going down to the Springfield Flea Market this weekend and I am so excited. We usually go every year at least one time...either in the Spring or Fall, sometimes both. I ALWAYS get excited for this weekend. It's fun to get away and spend some quality time with my Mom and Sisters.

Before I go though I have to share with you a mirror that I have re-done. I actually got the inspiration for music paper from my Mom and one of her projects that she had shared with you. She covered a chair in it and it turned out ADORABLE. So I had this mirror and I could have just painted it, which I started out doing, but it needed something more to it. It didn't look quite complete. So I took my try at modge podge and music paper. The music paper was from an old book and it had already discolored so I didn't have to stain it or anything to give it an antique look. I am happy with the outcome, although it took me a few tries to perfect the look I was striving for. That's how projects work though right? You just keep working on it until you get your desired outcome.

Whatever you may be doing the rest of the week or weekend I hope you make it a great one!!!

By the way I don't know if any of you have ever tried taking a picture of a mirror but it is not the easiest thing to do. I hope you get the overall picture of what it looks like anyhow. :)

Chalkboard on a Slice of Wood

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a wonderful weekend and a beautiful Mother's Day:)  We spent the day with both sides of our family which was nice.  I can't believe how fast time is going....it's almost Memorial Day....which means the "official start" of summer!!  We recently bought a new travel camping trailer and we are just itching to use it for camping!!  My sisters, mom, and I are heading to a big Flea market this weekend.  I am SOOO looking forward to it!!  We always have such a great time scouring for deals and finding exclusive treasures.

I recently picked up this wood slice from Jo-Anns and decided that it would make a super cute chalkboard.....

It was such an easy peasy project!!  I simply just primed it and brushed a few coats of chalkboard paint on it.  Here is the final product....

I hope you have an enjoyable evening!

The Corner Bookshelf

Good Morning fellow bloggers and Moms.  I hope everyone has a nice Mother's Day.  I know I will be because all my children, my Mom and my sister will be together, along with all the grandchildren, husband, sons and son-in-laws.  What a party!  Well, I haven't blogged in a little bit, life has been a little crazy with work and everything, but things are starting to settle down.  I'm looking forward to summer so I can laze around and have some more time to do the projects that I want to do.  Okay, so here is my latest project.  I did not get around to taking the before picture, sorry.  Started working with this bookcase and than I realized that there was no before picture.  Anyways here is a shot of it after it is all done:

What I did was first washed it all down.  It was a MESS.  It is an old bookcase and the wood was so dark and one could not see all the wonderful details of this piece.  I wanted a shabby piece so after it was all cleaned up I painted it up with a cream color flat paint.  I wanted this piece to be durable because books and items would be placed on the shelves.
When all the paint was dry I adhered some old music paper just to the shelves of the bookcase.  I than took some silver acrylic paint from Michael's or Joann's and painted the edges of the case and around the many spindles and the beaded detail at the top and bottom of the bookcase.  It took some time but I think it highlights the details of the old bookcase.
After the detailing had dried I decided to dry brush the silver paint across the top of the music sheets on the shelves.  It softened the music sheets from standing out to much and made it look a little older looking and not so newly painted.
I also brushed some silver paint across the top the of the feet of the bookcase.  After everything was dry I sealed the cabinet with a sealer.
So here is my little old bookcase.  I just love the way it fits into any corner of any room.  I love it in my living-room but I could see it being in a dining room, a bedroom even in a bathroom, endless possibilities.
So, what do you think?  Until next time, Dianne...........................

Just a Coat of Paint

Good afternoon! I hope you are all having a splendid afternoon. I was just enjoying the sunshine with my daughter and absolutely LOVING it!! She is FINALLY walking around and exploring by herself and it's fun to watch it. She is getting so big! Although, I guess I shouldn't be surprised she is walking since she is 15 months, but none the less we are still excited she is finally doing it.

I found this chandelier for 5 bucks at a garage sale, I mean talk about an awesome price!! It is not vintage or an antique but I thought it was pretty. It also wasn't necessary to do anything with it since it was in such great shape, but a little color never hurt anything or anyone right? Makes it so much more appealing to the eye, or at least to my eye. I took some light blue paint and brushed it on instead of spraying it, even though spraying it would have been much easier. I loved the matted look it gave the entire piece, not so glossy. As I was brushing it on I was also wiping the paint off in places with a wet rag to give it a less perfect look. This is is how it turned out. I simply love it and hope you all do too. Thanks for reading!!

Dollar Garage Sale Find

Happy Monday!!  Hope everything is well in your part of the world:)  I found this little sign at a yard sale awhile back and it just wasn't my cup of tea:)  So I decided to give it fresh coat of yellow paint and antique it a bit with black paint.  I chose the word, "Welcome" to stencil on.  A quick make-over......

Here she is after a lil' update.....

Have a wonderful evening!!

A Little Fancy & Little Nature

Good Evening, everyone.  It's Saturday evening and I didn't get a chance to blog on Thursday which is usually my normal day for the Shabby Gals.  I had a busy week and didn't really get a chance to get my thoughts and projects ready so I thought I would share on of my wall grouping in my living room.  I like the shabby chic look (no surprise) but I have a couple of hunters in my family, so I thought I would throw a little nature in with the fancy and the prisms.

I had found this wonderful, ornate and fancy frame at a garage sale.  I didn't do anything to it because I loved the color of the gold.  It is an old frame and I didn't really have a picture to put in it but my girls told me to hang a twig wreath in the inside.  I did and liked the look.  I thought it looked a little fancy and a little bit nature inside.
I had gone to an estate sale and found this beautiful old lamp with all the prisms.  The antique brass matches the frame.  My son, Tedd, who lives in North Dakota found this wonderful petrified wood on a riverbank.  My brother-in-law carved this wonderful Cardinal and we asked him to mount it on the old grey color wood.  I matched up one of my old teacups that picks up the grey of the wood and some of the red of the cardinal and again I think it mixes up a little fancy and a little bit of nature.
I had placed the lamp and the teacup on an old doily, which adds a little bit of color and again here's my red cardinal.

Than on my shelf I placed 2 shabby gold vases with some dried hydrangeas and a wonderful old tray that somewhere in my travels I had found at a garage sale.  My son also gave me these old antlers that a deer had shed a while ago and I placed them across the knobs of the shelf.
As you can see the antlers are a grey which adds a little bit of nature along with the petrified rock.  A mixture of fancy and nature.
So this is one of my wall groupings.  What do you think?  Until next time, Dianne......................

A Great Find

Hello!! I can't believe it is so late right now....sometimes I don't know where the days go. This is the first time that I am sitting down at the computer today, therefore the first time that I am having the chance to post to our blog. It can't complain though it was a great day! I had preschool this morning and then some softball practice and a dinner with friends. You just can't get a better day than that.

I am going to share with you a piece that I had bought from a lady that I also purchased a gorgeous antique table from a few months ago. Hopefully that project will be a post in the near future, although I have to admit that I haven't made much progress on it yet. Anyway she asked me if I was also interested in purchasing this unique piece from her. Having a hard time passing up anything so I bought it and couldn't wait to get started on it. I think it was a record holder at one point in time, but now I think it will be used as an organizer of some sort. I haven't really ever seen anything like it. Anyhow like most things that are old it needed some work. There was no knob anymore, the hinges on the door were falling off and it needed a few nails put back into it. Along with all those things it needed a sanding, a few coats of green paint, and some distressing. This is how it turned out. I added a soft pink knob and I LOVE how it looks with green paint. It looks rustic yet feminine at the same time. That is all for tonight...I hope you all have a lovely night.
