Lampshade Shabby

Good Morning, fellow bloggers.....It's Thursday morning and I'm publishing this before I go to work.  It sounds like we might have a little snow coming at us here in Michigan and I'm really ready for spring which seems kinda far away.  Well here is my latest project.  My husband found this really neat old lampshade at an estate sale, it was pretty sad looking but where can you find this shape. I stripped all the old material off right down to it's wire frame.  The material was actually shredded and filthy.  The trim was half gone.  I started working on it before I took the before picture, but here is the frame which I wrapped with ribbon because it was rusty in places.  That took a little while to do the wrapping.

Here is the material I took off this lampshade.  What a mess.

So, I finished wrapping this lampshade and decided I wanted to use some tulle material to cover the shade.  The tulle was soft and could be used for a veil.  It had a sparkle to the material which I think added some charm.  I measured the top part of the shade and gathered the tulle to fit around the shade.  I did it in 4 parts to make it a little easier to handle.  I than glued the tulle right to the wire that was wrapped in ribbon.  I cut off the excess tulle which was not glued onto the frame which made the inside of the shade neat.   To cover the top of the shade that had the rough edges of the tulle, I gathered a wide cream ribbon and glued that right on top of the tulle.

I had to cover the bottom straight part of the shade so I decided to use some trim with tassels and some other trim that was the same width of the shade.  I first added the tassels and than the wider green and pink trim.  I hot glued the whole shade.  My fingers were smarting pretty good by the end of this project, but it was worth it.
Here  is the finished lampshade.  It took a little bit of time, because I was doing it at the same time I was trying to figure out what I wanted it to look like.
And here it is sitting on my table all redone.  My new lampshade has gone shabby.  What do you think?
Until next time, Dianne.......
