Good Evening everyone. It's Wednesday evening and it has been a busy day. The family hunters have returned home and unloaded everything they had needed for hunting. They didn't bring home any trophies but oh well there is next year and I really don't think they only go for hunting. They seem to bring home a lot of stories and good laughs. Well I got a little excited with my next project and I forgot to take a before picture, but the chest of drawers was really purchased in May of 1933. When I had started cleaning the inside of the drawers someone had written on the bottom of the drawer that it had originally been purchased in 1933. It had come from an estate sale and I was the lucky one that fell in love with it. It is a beautiful chest with a lot of details but one couldn't really appreciate all the details. It was just a scratched up brown finish and kinda of boring. So I started lightly sanding the piece and than brushed on a coat of kilz paint to cover any oil marks or imperfections. I decided to get a quart of medium flat gray paint and paint it all over the piece. Here is the piece:
Isn't she gorgeous? After I painted the whole piece with the gray paint I decided that I wanted to highlight all the details in the 1933 chest. I painted in all the grooves with a dark gray paint and in some places I rubbed the dark gray in some of the grooves, both fingers and paint brush was used.
I also loved the hardware but the finish was a burnished brass. It just didn't look right with the gray tones that was on the chest so I sprayed painted the handles and than painted the light gray on top and wiped off the excess which left the light grey only in the crevices of the handles.
Look at all the details. Even the feet have wonderful detail.
I think with the paint choice one really can see the details.
The top of the 1933 chest of drawers even has a jewelry box.
Lift the lid and this is what you see.
More details.....This is where my finger came in handy and than I wiped off the excess with a wet rag. When all the painting and handy work was done I buffed the chest up with Miss Mustard Seed's finishing wax. I loved the soft sheen that came from the wax.
Here she is- my 1933 Chest of Drawers. It is the first piece to go in my bedroom. I have a wonderful headboard and foot-board for my bed which will be next. The bed set will be painted the same.
So what do you think? Do you like it? Until next time, Dianne.........
