Quick and Easy Shelf

Good morning!! Usually I like to get up and get going but this morning seems to be moving quite slowly. It's just one of those days. We do have places to be but not at least for another 45 minutes so here I find myself on our blog. Nothing wrong with that right?

I have found myself LOVING these mantel shelves that I am going to tell you about today. I have a couple of them on my walls at my house. I was tempted to keep this one but I don't think I need one in every room so it made it into our booth. I found this at a garage sale. The lady said someone had made it for her. It looks like they took a piece of molding and added a piece of wood to the top. Such an easy piece to re-create on your own! It was just perfect...besides a few coats of paint that it was crying for. So I decided to paint it black. I figure black could work perfectly in a lot of décor in houses. So here is the before pictures. Just so you can get an idea of how rough it looked without the paint.

As I said previously I thought black would be the best choice for this piece...I am sure a lot of other colors would have worked as well but this is the direction I went. I gave it a few coats and then sanded off some of the detail. I finished it off with some clear coating and called it good. I love the way it turned out. I am a little bit sad I didn't keep it for my own home. :) Have a great day!!
