Chalkboard Gardening Stakes

Good morning!  It's a rainy Monday morning here in good 'ole Michigan:)  I hope you had a nice weekend!  We survived our first week of school....with minimal stress.  My son seemed to enjoy his class and his teacher.  Here's hoping for a great second week as well!!!

I wanted to share with you a little gardening project I finished this past summer.  It's obviously well past the vegetable gardening season....but I still wanted to share this project with you.  I found these stakes at a garage sale this past summer....and thought they would be so cute turned into chalkboard stakes.

It was a quick and easy project.  Just a few coats of chalkboard spray paint and they were transformed.  I think they would be cute in any garden....don't you think??

A Ladder of Numbers

Good Day everyone, it's Thursday and I have to admit that summer just flew by.  It was a good summer and we had a lot of action at the camp which was so fun.  The grandchildren are getting so big and it is fun to see them enjoy our place like our own did.  When our kids were little I practically lived up there all summer.  Well here is my latest project which I did at the camp.  Here is the before picture:

As you can see it is just an old ladder but I thought it would be fun to have it painted and jazzed up.  One could use it as shelves in any room and have it be a conversational piece and an unique one.

I wanted to show you pieces of the ladder before I attacked it.  Some parts I left alone because of the shabbiness.

Well, I started painting and I didn't prime the ladder before because I found a tinted Kilz paint and I really like the aqua color or maybe turquoise color.  So I started painting.

I left the metal pieces of the ladder alone and when I was done painting I decided the steps of the ladder needed some numbers.   I painted the words this time and antiqued the whole piece with the same color gray paint that I had used for the words.

As you can see I left some of the metal parts of the ladder alone.  I liked the shabbiness of the old and grey color of the pieces but I antiqued around them.

So here is my ladder and I can't wait to put it my house.  I just love painting old pieces and giving them some new life.  They just give a room a pop of color.  I  loved the color and what do you think?  Better or worse?

A Little Bit of Lace

Good evening!! Wow where does a day go? I feel like these days are flying by and I can't seem to stop them or slow them down. I can't believe it's September!!! Where did the summer go? We sure enjoyed our summer days to the fullest. I feel like every weekend we were running camping, to my parent's cabin, or visiting the in-laws up north. It's kind of nice to be home for a few weekends and re-group.

Today I am going to show you how to jazz up a dollar store onesie for a little girl. I bought this plain pink onesie a while back with the intentions of adding to it. I finally got around to it and I loved how it turned out. I simply took some lace, that didn't exactly match the color but pretty close, and hand sewed three rows of it onto the neckline. I could have used the machine but to tell you the truth I got lazy about switching threads and I decided that hand sewing wouldn't take that long. :) It cracks me up even admitting that to you. None the less it turned out just as I had imagined. My daughter was pulling at the lace for a few minutes when I put it on her but then she forgot about it. I loved how girly it looks on her. Updated Candlesticks

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you enjoyed your last weekend of summer:)  I seriously cannot believe summer is over......it just went by way too fast!!  Tomorrow I am sending my baby off to Kindergarten and am feeling quite anxious about it...I hope he's all smiles tomorrow because I'll be sure to hide my nerves:)  We enjoyed our last weekend of summer at my parent's camp.  My son had a wonderful time with his cousins swimming and boating!  It was a great last hurrah for summer:)

I found these boring candlesticks at a garage sale this past spring.  I really loved the shape of the candlesticks they just needed a bit more color.

I gave these a coat of primer followed by a shade of mint green paint.  I then rubbed some gold paint on the candlesticks.  I love the color combination of these two colors.

New Life To A Set Of Shelves

Hey there!  Happy Monday to you....Wherever you are in this world I hope it's all good:)  It was a nice weekend here.  We enjoyed some sunshine and some good 'ole family time!  It's hard to believe my son is starting Kindergarten in ONE WEEK!!!  I have some serious jitters as he is my first to send off to school.  I am going to enjoy this last week with him and embrace our last week without a schedule.

I found this set of shelves at a garage sale awhile back.  Here they are before.... They just aren't my cup of tea.....they look dated in my opinion.

So I gave them a coat of white spray paint and then distressed them with gray paint.  Here they are after....
