The Clean-Up Cupboard

Good Morning.  It's Thursday and it's going to be a nice day.  Sunny and warm, or at least in the 50's.  I'm going to enjoy the day.  Well, enough of that and on to my project!  My husband found this adorable cabinet at an estate sale for $20.00.  I just love these old cabinets, but it needed a little tlc.  I scrubbed the cabinet and took off all the hardware.  I did a quick sanding so the kilz paint would adhere to the cabinet.   I wanted the white to cover the dark brown because I was going to paint the cabinet with a flat cream paint.  Here are the before pictures:
As you can see the cabinet needed a little help.  I didn't like the brown and it was so dirty.  The inside of the bottom cupboard had some ugly contact paper and the handles were so grubby.  I did like the original hardware.  I really scrubbed the hardware with just good 'ole water and soap and they came out nice and shiny.

I also wanted to paint the inside of the cabinet a different color than the cream.  I decided to paint it with a medium grey paint.  I didn't distress the outside of the cabinet but I took a small paint brush and some dark grey paint and outlined the whole cabinet.  I edged around the cabinet doors and the drawers.  I also did the  outside of the cabinet.  When I edge the furniture, I use the side of the paint brush and just rub it along the edge of the furniture.  I put the original hardware back on the cabinet drawers and doors.  I than painted some numbers on the glass doors and the bottom cabinet doors in the dark grey.  When everything was dry, I put a coat of poly-acrylic sealer on everything.  I was pleased with the final result.  What about you?

The  edging on the edges of the cabinet looks like I distressed and sanded the cabinet, but I didn't.  Just a different way of finishing some furniture.
I think that this cabinet would look cute in a kitchen or even a bathroom (stocked with towel, soaps etc...) or even a little girl's room, filled with all her treasures.

The Perfect Size

Hello!! Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!! Just got done cleaning up my house after the little preschool that I hold in my house on Wednesday mornings. I really look forward to my Wednesdays, four and five year olds are the best to work with!!

I don't know about you but I just love to find and re-do little, unique tables. I found this one at an estate sale. It was really cheap, I guess not everyone sees the beauty in such a little piece. I think it would be perfect alongside a couch or even in front of a mirror in a little hallway. Anyway I had to work some magic on it, so I primed it and then I painted it a few coats of a matte white so that I could transfer an image to the top. As I was painting I was also taking a wet rag and wiping the paint in places to give it that worn look. On the legs and along some of the crevices I took some blue paint and antiqued the piece. I then transferred an image, that I found on graphics fairy, to the top. I thought that the image on top completed the piece. That's all for now, I hope you enjoy your day!!

As you can see in the before picture I started to prime the piece before I took a picture. Luckily I remembered before I made it too far. :)

Little Wallpaper Table

Hello!  How are you?  We are enjoying our Sunday and hope you are too!  I wanted to share a little table make-over with you, which I found at a garage sale.  Here is the before picture of it....

I gave it a coat of primer and then a couple coats of white semi-gloss paint.  I decided to mod podge some vintage wallpaper to the top of the table.  Here she is after her make-over.

Enjoy your day!

Halloween Treat

Good morning! I hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween. It was really cold and rainy around Michigan so we just took our little 9 month old who was dressed up as an elephant and went to my parents house. It's fun to see everyone dressed up in cute little costumes!
Every year I try to make some kind of different little treat to pass out to my nieces, nephews and neighbors instead of just candy. When I was teaching preschool one of my parents made these yummy cake pops and I just had to try to re-create them. She made us pumpkin flavored ones but for the kids I wanted to make something that I knew they would like. Who doesn't like yellow cake right? So I googled on-line how to make them and from many different sites they made the cake the same basic way with just a box of cake mix and then half a container of frosting. From there I decided to put my own twist on things. So I used these little cardboard tubes that I had around the house since I never made it to the store to buy the real sticks. They worked just fine.

Here are the supplies that I used:
Instead of using styrofoam to hold the sticks upright after you dip them in the melted chocolate I used and old egg carton. It worked just as well.

After I mixed the cake and frosting I made little balls out of it. I put them on a cookie sheet and put them in the fridge for about an hour. Instead of using candy bark or any other chocolate that was specifically made for melting I used white chocolate chips and melted them in a bowl with a tbsp or so of shortening. Not knowing how it would work I was happy with the results. After I dipped the balls in the melted chocolate I added three chocolate chips to make it look like a ghost. I let it harden and then wrapped it in plastic wrap, added a tag that said, "Have a "boo"tiful Halloween", and tied it with a ribbon. The kids loved them.

Here is the finished cake pop:

From Blah to Shabby Chic

Good afternoon, everyone in blog land.  It's Wednesday and I have another fun project to share with you.  This little chair has made me smile(when she was all remade) with all the gloomy weather we have had this week.  We have had really windy weather and rain and cold!!!!!!  Anyways, on to the project.  My husband found this chair at a garage sale for $2.00.  I thought it was cute but the seat had a tear in the vinyl.  So here is the before picture:
So, my husband took the back and the seat off because I said I would put some new vinyl on the chair.  Once the back and the seat was off, I decided to spray the frame with a berry spray paint.  It took a couple of spraying to get it to look nice.  I than covered the seat and back with an oil cloth that I purchased from a store called Elm Creek, up in Farwell, Michigan.  I just love the print.
I think the pink on the chair legs and back match the pink in the flowers quite nicely.  The print is retro looking and fresh at the same time.

So here is the finished result. What do you think?  From blah to Shabby Chic?

Until next time, Dianne.....
