Red and Aqua

Good evening!! Usually I try to get this post up in the morning but the day got away from me, seems like that is how summer days go. Also it doesn't help when you have a crabby six month old. :) All that aside I want to share with you a piece of furniture that I recently finished. I decided to paint it red, which in my eyes was a huge transformation, but of course I wasn't content with that. So I wanted to antique it with some light blue paint, or aqua. I love those two colors together. I then took some old vintage wall paper that I purchased at the flea market this spring and put it on the top. When I put the paper on the top I decided I liked it better without the railing so I left that off to update the piece. Last but not least I added a pull to the front because when it was missing when I bought it. I think the finished product came together well. I can't wait to do my next project with the same two colors. I think they complement each other. I hope you have a fabulous night!!

A Couple of Signs

It's Tuesday!  How are you?  Things are well on this end....

I am in love with signs...They can add a fun and whimsical look to any room.  I attempted to create a few of my own.  I found these boards at a garage sale for a couple of cents each.

I decided to make a "Laundry" sign and a phrase from one of my fave songs, "You are my sunshine."  For the laundry sign I primed it with Kilz, then painted it with a bright yellow, cut out the letters with my cricut machine using contact paper, placed the letters onto the sign and then painted the entire board with white paint.  I then removed the letters and then let the sign dry.  Lastly, I rubbed stain around the edges to give it a more aged look.  Here she is....

For the next sign I primed it and painted it in the same yellow.  After it dried I created a stencil using my cricut machine for the phrase.  I stenciled it in gray paint and then took my palm sander and roughed up the entire board.  Lastly, I rubbed a coat of stain on it to give it more dimension.  Here she is....

I had so much fun making these!  I have a couple more boards left so I'm off to pinterest to gather a few more inspiring quotes or powerful words.

I hope you have a great day!!  Thanks for reading!!!

Scrabble Coasters

Happy Monday everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend!!  It was a nice weekend for us.....we enjoyed a Tiger's game down at the stadium, spent an evening swimming with family, and lounged around on Sunday.  I wanted to share a project that my mom and I made one afternoon while we were at the lake.  I saw the idea on pinterest and just fell in love with it....scrabble coasters.  How fun right??  She had the scrabble pieces and I supplied the cork board.  It was a quick and easy project to do.  We grabbed a cup of coffee (a must when you're crafting, right?) and gathered the scrabble pieces, cork board, exacto knife, E6000 glue, and blue IKEA stain....

Then we figured out how big we wanted to make the coasters and what word we wanted to stand out.  We decided to make it five letters across and four letters down.  My mom had a blue stain so we used that on the letters to create a word...for example..."dwell."  We used E6000 glue, which works great, to place the scrabble pieces onto the cork board.  After the glue dried, we took an exacto knife and cut as close as we could around the letters.

Here are the finished products....They look create especially adorned with a coffee cup!!!  What do you think??

Have a great day!!!

Updated Butterflies

Happy Friday!!!  Hope you are all well!!  Looking forward to a great weekend....just relaxing at home with my family.  Hopefully we'll have good weather....pool weather would be superb.  I recently found some butterflies at a garage sale while we were up at my parent's camp.  Here they are before....not so special and kinda blah.
It was a quick and easy update.  I simply gave them a quick coat of spray paint and then rubbed some gray paint into the nooks and crannies of the butterflies.  I like the gray touch...as it gives them a bit more dimension.  I think they could be cute in a little girl's room.  Here's the updated picture of them.
I hope you have a great weekend!  If you're reading ThAnKs!!!

All you need is pink

Good morning!! The project that I am going to share with you today wasn't really very time consuming, and for that matter probably not too creative, but I love the way it turned out. Sometimes all you need is a touch of pink to transform a dull piece. So I found this Audrey Hepburn poster at a garage sale. It is black and white with a black frame around it. I thought how perfect for a girly room or for that matter any room!! I decided it needed a little bit of color though since the frame and picture were just black and white. So I took out my trusty, bright, pink paint and decided to just paint the frame. I think it really pops now. I shared this with you because even before the pink frame I just adored the picture of Audrey Hepburn and thought it was such a fun find. I hope you enjoy it too!!!
Have a great day!!! ~Jessica
